Here's what I'm thinking about....

...this chair.  I have this rocker in my son's nursery.  It's a brown mass amongst the other brown masses that are my crib and changing table.

I think it would be a lot cuter if it was kelly green.

I'm thinking about buying the beige slipcover that's available and dyeing it.  If anyone has tips, experience, or words of caution or encouragement when it comes to dying fabric, I'd love to hear them.

  1. Hey Aaron! Adam and I got a chair like this from kmart when Greta was born. I cant speak for all upholstered rockers but we hated ours! We'd literally rock three times and have to scoot it back into place constantly. Just make sure you get to test drive it before you buy it...

  2. Ha! Nevermind. Obviously didn't read in detail that you already OWN the chair. So, I guess there is hope for the other upholstered rockers out there! As far as dying fabric is concerned, I just dyed some towels for Greta's birthday using Tulip fabric dye from Walmart. I only had one packet for about 3-4 towels which was way over the amount they suggested (something about the size of a man's shirt) and although they got colored, some look a little tye-dye. I would imagine it would turn out pretty good if you got a couple packets for your slipcover!

  3. I have the same exact rocking chair, as well as the beige slipcover. I'd be curious about how it would soak up dye because it is microfiber. Mine has been the victim of more spills than I care to admit, without a single lingering stain.

Good luck! I, too, wish there was a wider range of slipcover colors!

I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago. Love it!

  4. Yes! I wish it came in more colors too. It seems that most rockers come in neutral or pastel colors...as if those are the only colors people use in nurseries.

I think I'm going to have to paint the chair with fabric paint because it's polyester microfiber. We'll see...I'll definitely be givng an update on how it goes.
