Things are about to get a lot more thrifty around here...

....we've had a lot of changes going on over the last week.  I resigned from my teaching position on Wednesday in order to be a part-time stay at home mom!  I say part-time because I'm still going to need to work a  little bit, probably in a retail location.  Losing such a big chunk of our income is kind of scary, but I'm really looking forward to being at home with this little guy more often.

I'm also looking forward to seeing my husband more often.  For the past two years my husband and I have had opposite work schedules, I worked during the day and he went to work when I got home. He also didn't have weekends off.  This meant that we spent about 4 to 5 hours together 4 times a week.

These big changes mean I'm really going to have to live up to the word "thrifty" in the title of this blog.  I'm going to come up with a plan and share on Monday.

Happy Friday!

Oh, good for you! It IS a tough step to take and there are many sacrifices, but you don't get these years back. Enjoy!

Congratulations on staying home. That's awesome! You will never regret spending more time with him. It goes by way too fast.

You can do it! I know the feeling after leaving my job exactly one year ago this month to stay at home with our now 2-year-old. It was weird leaving a perfectly good, well-paying job...especially in this economy. But, it is so worth it! However, it does take some adjusting. Be prepared for cabin fever and an overwhelming need for adult conversation!

Brand new follower here. Love your blog, you have beautiful taste. Congratulations on a great decision. :) My little guy is now two and I made the decision to stay home after three days back at work from maternity leave. It was a shock to hubby to become sole provider but none of us have ever regretted it for a second. :)

I know how you feel! Except I am now going from full time teaching (7 classes) to part-time teaching (3 classes). And my three classes are a dream (the smarty pants in advanced algebra trigonometry who YEARN to know more, HAHA). I am so thankful to our math department for working that out for me.

I'm a bit nervous about the finances because I like nice things (doesn't everyone!), so I guess I'll check here often to learn how to get better at being thrifty. I think it time to get re-acquainted with the local flea market :)

Here's to mom-hood!

You are so brave! I'm a teacher in Oakland, CA (the lowest paid district in the very expensive Bay Area). I have a few teacher friends/couples who started of saying they were only going to take off 3 months, which turned into a year, which turned into resigning like you did. They couldn't leave their babies! They are doing fine :)
I like the selling on Craigslist to shop idea. I'm going to try that one.
